CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) — W.Va. Treasurer John Perdue says phone calls to his office’s unclaimed property division have spiked after more than $290,000 was returned to a former West Virginia resident.
A 90-year-old woman named Louise received the check Nov. 8 at the State Capitol.
Treasurer Perdue says his office received 358 phone calls that day, more than 5 times the regular amount.
The following day 260 people called the office to see if they had unclaimed property.
According to a release, in the 24 hours following the presentation, new online claims were filed on 375 properties.
Perdue’s office also tells WSAZ they received more than 145 calls between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Nov. 8 when both Louis and Perdue appeared on First Look at 4.
